Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys.
So sad to hear about the passing of MCA today, he was a brilliant musician and all-round top bloke.
Johnee D’Shea posing with Spector USA Rex 4 and Rex 5.
Pro bassist Johnee D’Shea posted this on the Guitar Porn Facebook page a couple of weeks back and we thought that a few more people should see it, he’s posing here for a promotional photo for the Spector Bass website.
John Paul Jones playing his Alembic Series II.
Happy Birthday to bass playing rock-icon Jonesy who turns 66 today. Heres a photo of him in his Led Zeppelin prime, playing his Alembic Series II.

So sad to hear of the passing of Bert Jansch today, he was a brilliant guitarist and an influence to many including Jimmy Page, Neil Young, Johnny Marr and Bernard Butler to name but a small few. In an era when everyone else was plugging in and amping up, he effortlessly outshone them on acoustic, always displaying brilliant dexterity and sophistication.

Is it just me or does that Rickenbacker actually appear to come right out of the computer screen?

ALL HAIL THE WIZARD OF TWIDDLY! You know him, you’ve heard him play, you’ve laughed at his hair but face facts; the man rocks. He can flatten you against the wall with the heaviest chord known to man (Innuendo), dazzle you with his dexterity on both Electric AND Acoustic (also Innuendo), jump between disparate styles seamlessly, often in the space of a song (…… yep, you guessed it, Innuendo). To say he’s influential is an understatement, Queens performance at Live Aid is cited by many former punk rockers as the moment where they decided that, you know, it might actually be ok to be able to play their guitars.
There’s not enough room to do the man justice. Best thing to do is go stick on a Queen album, any of them will do; his love affair with the guitar is apparent on every single track.
This wonderful room of awesome was posted on the Guitar Porn Facebook page recently by Phil Henri of the band Dead End Ascension. Head over to their Facebook page to hear them in action.
Phil is playing a limited edition Epiphone Les Paul 7-String, with a treasure trove of Flying V’s behind him and what can only be described as an absolute assault of guitar pedals in front!
Well, his hands at least. But they’re playing a Jag thats seen a few gigs and no mistake. Oliver is the guitarist and vocalist of A Place To Bury Strangers but, more importantly, is also the founder of Death By Audio, effects pedal manufacturers extraordinaire! If you like your pedals then you seriously need to check these guys out at their website. If you do, you’ll find yourself in the company of Nine Inch Nails, U2, Wilco and more, all of whom use Death By Audio pedals.
When you’re a famous musician like, say, Elvis Costello, Tom Waits or John Zorn, and you require a guitarist that thinks a little bit sideways, then there’s only one guy to call; Marc Ribot. Able to comfortably play in a plethora of styles, from No Wave, or Jazz to Cuban and straight up rock, either acoustically or plugged-in, Marc is the go-to guy for musicians looking for a freethinking guitarist to embellish their songs or take them in exciting and unexpected new directions.
